about

Here we pair two early and very limited cassette releases of unexplainable instrumentals by FANTASTIC PALACE. It is utterly unique, and wonderful music! Sounding like good times in a Chrome universe, Wümme era Faust as a circus band, or Super Roots 6 era Boredomes trying to do covers of Byrds outtakes. Songs alternate between sunshine psychedelia and dark alien soundtracks. Even though songs are often short and experimental in nature, rather than sounding like sketches they create fully formed melodic vignettes that feel as if they've been beamed in from a neighboring dimension.

Home recordings written and performed by Alexander Ross.

Most tracks were recorded on a Tascam 4-track cassette recorder in Jersey City, NJ, between 1987 and 1989. "Universe," "Crawl," and "Vandal Dance" were recorded on reel to reel tape deck at the Woodpecker home studio in Jersey City. I recorded "Pickup Taps" in my dorm room at RIT on a reel to reel tape deck (sound on sound!) in 1979.
